Chinoiserie cage series
The Chinoiserie series bird cages and vitrines were built by Eric Lansdown during the 1980s & early 90s.
This dark green and gold version of the Chinoiserie series is accompanied with a black sister, they are last two of this series to be completed. In fact the finishing was only entirely complete in the summer of 2015! These last two will be the only ones available in more than 20 years and their finishing details will be more refined than all the preceding examples. The cage wire is hand strung, tied and soldered, not wire mesh panel. The gold is not powdered but gilded and every detail is sized, gilded and shadowed by Carole Lansdown herself - not done with silk screens & powder!
These two cage cabinets were assembled from restored pieces that were saved for more than 20 years and the final results can be seen at the Cobalt Gallery in Mendocino through February 2017.
