Apprenticeships

Eric’s creations, since the 1970s, have always been a collaboration of talent; today, these dollhouses take many hands to assemble with an apprenticeship program that sees collaboration from young artisans from all over the globe. Eric Lansdown Arts Association is a non-profit focused on educating future generations of artists. Eric’s goal is to leave a legacy of craftsmanship and skill to the young artists who work alongside him.

A Unique Opportunity for Aspiring Artists

The apprenticeship doesn’t just teach you how to create beautiful works of art; it also guides you in balancing your creative passion with the realities of business. Eric shares invaluable insights on how to navigate the art world, ensuring you learn how to thrive, not just survive, as an artist.

With decades of experience under his belt, Eric’s masterful techniques will be paired with your fresh ideas and energy, creating a collaborative, dynamic learning environment.

“What I’m trying to do is open doors and show that arts can be a way of life, a way of making a good living.”

Eric Lansdown

The Apprenticeship Experience

This apprenticeship is a deeply immersive experience set in the beautiful French countryside, complete with cosy log fires and serene vineyard surroundings. You will begin with a three-month programme for apprenticeship candidates, where you’ll receive food and accommodation as you learn the fundamentals of Eric’s craft and gain insight into running a small artisanal business.

Eric’s introduction to the arts goes beyond just technical skills—this program gives candidates a chance to experience life and work in a traditional workshop setting, fully immersing themselves in the craft and lifestyle. The introductory program allows you to explore whether this unique setting resonates with you. Could you see yourself living and working in this inspiring location long-term? While Eric’s goal is to pass on his expertise to as many young artists as possible, he welcomes those who feel a strong connection to the craft and can imagine making this place their professional home.

If both parties agree to move forward after the initial trial period, the apprenticeship has the potential to extend beyond the trial period and works on the one-to-one mentorship, focusing not only on mastering the technical aspects of the craft but also on developing the skills needed to build a sustainable career in the arts.

Who Is Eric Looking For?

Eric’s ideal apprentice is someone passionate, driven, and with a background in arts or craftsmanship. In addition to art school graduates, Eric is particularly interested in working with technical artists who have woodworking experience, as this skill aligns closely with his craft.

Separately, Eric is also seeking someone with media skills to help manage marketing for his business and workshop.

Eric will teach his apprentices in English, so applicants must be able to communicate in English (minimum B2 level).

Why This Apprenticeship?

Eric’s workshop is more than just a place to learn a craft—it’s a community of shared passion, where you’ll find fulfilment in creating things that matter. As Eric says: “It’s the energy of the young people that keeps me going.”

This is not just an apprenticeship; it’s a pathway to mastering your craft, building a meaningful and sustainable career, and, one day, continuing the legacy of Eric’s studio.

Eric is on a mission to ensure his studio thrives after he’s gone. Over the next decade, he’s looking to pass on his knowledge, skills, and business to the right person, bit by bit. Could that be you?
